Looking for a Move of God?

We Need a Move of God

There’s something powerful about singing together as a church, lifting our voices in unison to worship and declare our need for God. Recently, we sang a song called "Move of God” by SEU Worship, and it got me thinking. How often do we sing these words without truly seeking the move of God in our lives? Are we genuinely yearning for His power and presence, or are we just caught up in the hype of the moment?

Are You Looking for a Move of God?

Maybe you don't experience a move of God because you're not looking for a move of God. It’s easy to get comfortable with our routines and not actively seek God's presence in our daily lives. In Jeremiah 29:13 (NIV), God promises, "You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart." Seeking God requires intentionality and a wholehearted devotion. It’s about having a genuine desire to encounter Him beyond our church services and worship songs.

Some of you like the hype, but you don't like the hunger. And because of that, you will encounter the praise, but you don't experience the presence.

There’s a big difference between getting caught up in the emotional high of worship and truly hungering for God’s presence. Jesus said in Matthew 5:6 (NIV), "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled." Jesus is saying that it’s this deep, genuine longing for God that leads us into His presence, not just the excitement of the moment.

Experiencing the Presence of God

To move from hype to hunger, we need to cultivate a lifestyle of seeking God. Here are a few practical steps:

1. Create Sacred Spaces.

Dedicate specific places in your home or daily routine as "God zones" where you meet with Him. It could be a cozy chair by a window, a quiet corner in your bedroom, or even a walk in nature. Psalm 63:1 (NIV) says, "You, God, are my God, earnestly I seek you; I thirst for you, my whole being longs for you, in a dry and parched land where there is no water." Find your God zones where you can earnestly seek Him.

2. Invite the Holy Spirit into Your Day.

Instead of just a formal prayer time, weave conversations with the Holy Spirit throughout your day. Acts 1:8 (NIV) tells us, "But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." Whisper prayers, ask for guidance, and invite His presence into mundane moments, turning every activity into a sacred encounter.

3. Worship with Expectation.

When you worship, do it with the anticipation that God is going to show up and show off. Psalm 22:3 (KJV) says, "But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel." Picture God enthroned on your praises, ready to meet you in that moment.

Let your worship be a declaration of faith, not just a routine.

4. Build a Spiritual Network.

Surround yourself with people who are on fire for God and can fuel your hunger. Join a small group or find accountability partners who will encourage you in your walk with God. Hebrews 10:24-25 (NIV) encourages us, "And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching." Let iron sharpen iron in your spiritual journey.

Reflection

  • Are you truly seeking a move of God in your life, or are you just going through the motions?

  • How can you cultivate a deeper hunger for God’s presence?

  • In what ways can you set aside daily time to seek God more earnestly?

God desires to move in our lives in powerful ways, but we need to be intentional in seeking Him. Let’s move beyond the hype and develop a genuine hunger for His presence. As we do, we will experience the true move of God that we long for.

Remember, it's not just about encountering the praise, but experiencing the presence. Let's make it a daily pursuit to seek God with all our hearts and invite His transformative power into our lives.
